That didn’t go how I expected, but it was unbelievably satisfying. Quentin Tarantin’s 9th film is a tribute to classic hollywood, filmmaking, and is an enjoyable character exploration right up until and through his surprising take on the events of August 8th, 1969.

I remember when it was announced that Tarantino was making a movie about the Manson murders, many were horrified at the idea, thinking it would be exploitative and in poor taste. But it really is the sweetest and most sincere of his movies, I think. It's definitely my favorite and I always cry at the end when we see Jay and Sharon not only unharmed by absolutely untouched by the whole bizarre experience. The foot thing is pretty much self-parody at this point, but apparently Sharon Tate hated wearing shoes and went barefoot whenever she could (her sister said she used to wear elastic bands around her ankles and toes so it looked like she was wearing sandals and could go into places that required shoes without actually wearing them).

And of course Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme escaped, and six years later tried to assassinate President Ford.

Possibly the best reaction to this movie I've ever seen. First off, probably a third of the reactors who do this go in blind and don't know about the Manson murders, and so the entire movie is wasted on them! There's a new reaction to it, touting iit as "the wildest movie ever", and you just wonder what the reactor is titling his video about since he experienced absolutely zero suspense and tension, from beginning to end. The other 2/3rds do some "homework", but you REALLY did your homework! You knew some of the most arcane stuff, you had that all at the tip of your tongue, and wow, did it make a difference! My whole life Sharon Tate is just this corpse, basically, this horrifying murder victim, and this movie has given her back her identity and her life. When people think of Sharon Tate now, they think of Margot Robbie, not the horrible crime scene photos, and I feel that's one of the movie's greatest accomplishments, something I never would have conceived of. Thanks again, Chris!!! And congratulations, you've got all nine of his films under your belt now!

Thank you so much for this comment! You've always left great ones, since day one! I really appreciate it. When I heard the manson murders were important to learn about before this I wanted to learn as much as I can so I tried to find the most extensive sources to try and understand everything from hippie culture to sharon tate's life. I was amazed at how much of what I learned added to the experience.

Heres an additional, fun "historical context." Bruce Lee was only known in America as side-kick (heh) Kato from The Green Hornet. TGH was the less popular show vs Adam West Batman. When they did a cross-over of the shows (Batman + Green Hornet) - it was scripted that Kato fights and loses to Robin. Lee said "hell na." The producers tried to explain: you're a savage badass and he's a naive little boy; its really *funny* that you lose, plus it'll help your career in 'merica. Lee was, "nope. Honor. Gung fu." (kung foo, we silly-ly say.) So they rewrote the Batman ep and...well rather than me jibber-jabbering about it...just watch: https://youtu.be/vKkcd0ba3qU?si=6a7HXJi3jR6G258p
