Wow! I had no idea what to expect and I walked right into possibly the most grounded and heartfelt mystery ever put to film. Absolutely incredible!

As you know I'm big into the more fantastical sorts of genre fiction. Action, horror, sci fi and such. So it was really refreshing to revisit this recently and be completely immersed in a movie that really is very down to earth. Everything that follows is just basic human interaction and misunderstanding and you really understand where people are coming from even though it leads to such turmoil. But it stays really compelling even when the movie turns into a series of petty legal disputes. Very limited music that I remember as well. Gonna be fun to check this out with you when I get a chance. I also like how this is covering a similar breakdown of relationships but in a polar opposite way to what Possession was doing, and I love them both.

Yes! I was surprised as we got into the film just because it was such a different vibe from your usual fare. But as you said, it was incredibly immersive!

There's a lot to say about this...but here's just *1* aspect of this sublime melodrama. Subtle Cinematography. SO many shots are through a doorframe, a window, a windshield, a fence, actors' backs to camera, through traffic, in a mirror. Obvious jokes aside: the camera is Literally separating the audience from the story. And yet the movie is deeply intimate. Frued would giggle about Film being Ultimate voyeurism. But this film, looking through a window literally, broke that screen of removal and made me feel like I was there, or at least in the next room. I don't think I've *ever* seen a flick that SEPARATED the audience *so much* with the camera but, ironically, pulled me in so deeply at the same time. Again, simply: I really enjoyed this.

Kelvin, a suggestion based upon this and Possession to make a triangle of "these" films... (Chris, you'd get a lot out of this suggestion. But its underseen so sadly not worth a reaction. I mean, I'd *pay* you to watch it except that 🤗🤗🤗.) Oleanna (1994). Reading about it won't spoil it. The trailer is poorly made, tho.
