When y'all were describing the dissonance in the ranch scenes, it made me think of "La última cena" - Cuban movie from the 70s that still kind of knocks around in my head. I remember it doing some interesting stuff with the relationship between a "moral"/pious landowner and the people he subjugates.

On the subject of James Bond apparently borrowing from it's earlier competitors, I recently watched the second Matt Helm movie The Ambushers. It's a spy comedy which essentially created the character of Jaws 11 years earlier in the form of a metal-headed Dave Bautista-looking mf who is defeated by exploiting disability. Drinking while driving is also played for comedy.
