Well, it's finally happened. we've talked about a movie for longer than the runtime of the movie.
We also bid goodbye to a beloved classic character, Mitchell from the movie Quantum of Solace. It's always so hard to lose them like this... I'd only just recovered from the untimely demise of 'the character Sharkey from the movie License to Kill', and now I have to deal with a whole other wave of pain.

Also we invent the alternate universe Even Older Moore Bond film Moonpussy, so there's that.

M interrogating White at the start is I think the first time a Bond film has openly said that MI6 tortures people. It’s not agonized over or framed as a “we must, but only in this time” special case, it just put out there as “yes of course we torture. It’s what we do, don’t be silly. I’ll eat lunch while we’re doing it and probably rub one out afterwards.” I can’t help but see it as a direct fallout from the W/Blair era, where all pretense was dropped that torture was something civilized democracies shouldn’t do.

quantum gang, quantum gang, quantum gang, best bond film alert

this movie is the most underrated bond movie of the craig era, its got the most realistic plot, and its the last one before they really shifted to focusing on bond himself in skyfall.

very much noticed how Ab progressively gets nicer about the acting as the Bond years started catching up XD also thought the side-eyed addressing of being a "secret agent" (on the side of government vaccination support of all things, the horror) was great. am however wondering if she will address the deeper issue of government funding to sway creative messaging either seriously (if she hasn't,,, I'm not on fuckn Twitter) or creatively in a revised way

Thank you for this episode. I feel really seen.

The motor oil thing in the end- it's got a fun parallel to Greene pretending to be buying oil fields but actually damming the water supply

Relieved you found this the last of the good Craig years. I have a soft spot for NTTD, but the next two are absolute bilge.

Simon Bitdiddle

Always a great podcast, keep up the good work. Hopefully the Daniel Craig merch gets its time to shine.

"it's almost nü, it's almost innüvative"

For what it's worth, in the knife fight with Not-Slate, he took what appear to be a pair of scissors and stabbed him in the neck, followed by a very deliberate stab to the femoral artery. Then, because they'd crashed onto the balcony outside, he immediately starts looking around to see if they've been noticed

OvO Hoot

Poor Elvis. They didn't even mention his death. In their defense, it's impossible to tell what happened to him, exactly. Stood too close to a red explosive barrel, I think.

if nothing else, we can at least agree that QoS has the best "NEXT LOCATION" title cards in the entire franchise. delightful little typeface variations going on

Huh, this is the first episode that's made me want to revisit a Bond film. I saw it as a shit-eating teenager and I focused on the stuff I didn't like. I remember thinking how tripling the cost of water in Bolivia was more like something MI6 would support. And the really, really obvious explosion threat, the hydrogen powerplant. Ohhh I wonder what's gonna happen. The Ford product placement was pretty egregious too. Anyway I'll give it a re-watch and look for the good bits.

Craig, looking at fingers: Im going to suck this place dry

Imdb trivia: the barrel room's full name is actually the General Ourumov Memorial Exploding Barrel Room.

See I interpreted the scene where he leaves Greene in the desert with only a can of motor oil to drink as being punishment for causing water shortages.

The thing about Quantum is Craig is just playing Hitman the entire time, from just killing every key person, to stumbling upon guns and secret society guys, to just tossing people off the roof

beeflord

I feel very awkward now because you're making me want to rewatch this but man I still have 14 year old memories of that editing being fucking unwatchably bad

The Beak TM

wait what was up with the Abi secret agent joke

No, no, don't do this to yourself. Embrace that ignorance. Ignorance isn't just bliss in this case, it's also half an hour you never need to spend on the highly-online left doing highly-online things. The internet was a mistake. Twitter is a virtual-reality death-game, and you retain at least some small part of yourself that modernity has not destroyed. Don't give it up. Cherish it while you can. Alternatively, I want you to imagine the domino meme with the little domino labeled "low-stakes inside baseball involving the choice of US Speaker of the House" and the big one labeled "BreadTube are the CIA, actually" and you'll basically have what you need.

Get Daniel Craig on but for a bonus episode about a sequel to a kids film

this podcast would be completely and utterly impenetrable to Daniel Craig, the least online man

Chandler Hull

Can't believe y'all didn't flag up Camille doing brown face.

Ctolm

I bet Bond, Mitchell and Sharkey tore the place up at Felix's bachelor party.

When you are done with the bond movies, you should check out some of Arnold Schwarzenegger's movies especially from the 90s. there's all sorts of amazing tropes and lines like The Eraser which is sort of a spy movie or Kindergarten Cop or Red Heat and it'd be better than doing the mission impossible movies

Craig & Craig Mitchel ❤️ lol

Just got through watching it and yeah, definitely got the vibe y'all got, it was trying so hard to be really good. Still liked it though. Now I'm watching Skyfall to get the jump on it, first time since starting listening to this podcast that I'm watching one of these ahead of time, and boy! do I already have thoughts, especially about the ridiculous framing at the beginning of Bond's too old to be Bond even though he's only been Bond for two movies which took place over a two-month period.

Kacey Riley

Had a fever dream you did a bonus episode reviewing your own podcast, and Alice's soundboard was full of drops of herself

This slipped by in the needlessly-frantic editing but Eurotrash Bowl Cut Guy falls down some stairs at the party and it's revealed, for a split-second that his Eurotrash Bowl Cut is in fact, a WIG. Which means it was a CHOICE. A man named Elvis fuckin looked at a selection of wigs and went 'ah yes, I'll take the one that looks like I've been dipped upside down into a bowl of chocolate syrup, merci beau-fuckin-coup'. Where is the animatrix-style short about this guy in the DVD extras? I like to imagine he has different wigs for each henching job.

Moonpussy got me actin strange

I know you don't want to do The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo but you could do the original trilogy for AMAB. The whole theme is about men being shitty people and the way the world suffers from it. (But then again the material is pretty rough and maybe not as fun)
