Update 2021-02-26: Cut 4 Rough Anim is Done

Rough animation for Cut 4 is done (see the video above). I'm gonna continued on Cut 5 right away since it's continuation shot.

Here's a bit of my process. I always started with drawing a rough, but detailed for the keyframes. This will help me tie down the details much easier when doing the rest and when inking. Started with Pingo who always bouncy and cheerful <3

Then I added the breakdown drawing between each keys. This will show how one pose lead to another. See the timing there on which pose is slow in and which is slow out.

Next is the passing positions drawing between keys and breakdowns. We can see the whole 90% of action in here.

And it's done. Same process also apply to Kati and the props as well.

Last is in between, aka draw the rest of the frames to make it smooth. I'm gonna do that in the inking process since I don't wanted to repeat the drawing all over again XD

Update 2021-02-23: Cut 4 Timing

I love making a straight ahead animation when doing the timing. By drawing individual poses on paper first then cut them and put them in a time line and adjusting it later. This way is more flexible for me. I can see the whole action in one place, and it fast too.

The same method can be found in various Japanese animation, where they cut the rough/key frames drawing and just make a mini stop motion out of it. Here's a sample from a preview of Evangelion: Air (or Death and Rebirth). It's a package movie where they chopped the TV episode together with some new scenes in the first half. The second half is the first 20 minutes of the following move, The End of Evangelion)

Update 2021-02-21: Cut 4-5 Animatic

Here come the long, 30 second cut. I separate this into two cut so I wont get tired from it too much XD

The work flow will be changed too. After make the first 3 cuts looks finished and all I realized I can't focus on certain elements that much. One day I do the animation, the next day I have to shifted my focus to do on painting the BG and layout. I can't put my full effort on each elements as I wanted. It's pretty exhausting haha.

I'm gonna focusing on one element at a time. Starting on animation. I will animating everything first, from rough to inking to coloring, for every scenes in the shorts. Once that all done then I will do the rest, shading, BG and FX.

See you in the next update! <3

Is the board and the thumbnail are the same? lol I don't actually know the official term as well but, as long as it works, then it's fine XD The gif is from this ^.^ https://www.sakugabooru.com/post/show/13

Haha I don't know either, I wasn't formally train in 2d pipeline so those terms are all just felt just about right by my own intuition hehe xP Thanks for the gif link! C:
