So I've finally figured out how to use bump maps properly (at last) and have been trying to find a good node setup. 

This is the current state that seems to resist different light configurations so far.

The only drawback is that it requires really hi-res textures to look decent up close, we're talking 8K or 16K res here.

I think I'll make the 8K bump maps as default for the 4K shared textures, everything else will stay 4K. 4K bump will be for the 2K shared and16K will be an extra download if you really want to get right into those pores and don't mind the indecent vram use. From my testing the 4K bump increase vram use by ~400Mb, 8K ~1.4Gb, 16K a lot more I guess.

Ayyyy Those look pretty dang good. I've always struggled with getting a good balance of bump/spec just right so my skin doesn't look oily or muddied out by wrong values. Good work.

I agree it's not easy to find the correct balance. For now I think it looks okay but there's probably room for improvement.
