If you noticed with Tim Minear, he does most of the Darla centric episode. During season 1, Joss gave him a lot of trust. Without Minear we wouldn’t have had the “Darla” episode with her backstory. It was Minear who begged for that episode and he originally didn’t want to do it because he was doing a Fools For Love episode and then that’s when the idea to connect the two episodes idea happen since we all knew that there was a quad of Darla, Angelus, Dru and Spike. So most of your favorite episodes might have been done by him. I also believe he and Joss did the last part of the Faith arc in season 1! Also this episode was so shocking of an ending but this episode is totally reminiscing of 2x02 “Are You Now or Have You Ever Been” (written & directed by Minear) where Angel let the demon feed in all the souls in the hotel. This episode here was Angel essentially doing the same thing, he finally got fed up and decided to not help. This is a good reminder that even with the soul he has not always been perfect and he’s still a vampire but he has emotions and everyone has that point where it’s just enough. So just so you know although Joss probably had the final say so in this show, David Greenwalt and Tim Minear were a power duo for this show as you can listen on interviews about when you are finished with the series.
