Lunara animation on hold (Patreon)
Content
Some of you are probably wondering what happened to this animation so I wanted to officially explain it.
The animation part of this project is almost finished, however there's a problem - all that dense foliage and the fur on her deer body makes this scene very render intensive - every 1080p frame takes around 10 minutes to complete on my RTX 3060Ti and that adds up to around 400h per camera angle. I would like to have 4-5 camera angles (although not every angle would need to cover the whole animation).
Nevertheless best case scenario I would still be looking at 800h of render time and worst case maybe double that so 1-2 months of 24/7 rendering. That means my computer would be out of commission for that entire time - and that's my main PC where I make all my animations.
And that's just not feasible for me at the moment so I'm putting the project on hold until I get better hardware that could render this scene much faster. Also by that time maybe a good temporally stable-denoising solution will finally appear which will also significantly reduce render times without impacting the quality. Current denoising solutions aren't temporally stable so using them can introduce flickering when there's not enough samples in the render - which you can see in some of my animations.
Oh and regarding the spaceship - my idea was to have it as an intro to this animation and perhaps some others (like a series). I wanted the guy to arrive on the planet by ship (and then land in a shuttle) to meet her, and in the future others. Of course this would mean even more rendering cause I would also have to have the shuttle land and all that stuff.
So that's the situation right now - I'm putting this on hold so that I can continue producing other content regularly.
