Honestly I grew up with a dad like this. Though instead of being a lawyer, he wanted me to take over his gardening business. Anything I said I wanted to do as a career he would insult. As punishment for “bad” behaviour, I was often locked in my room for 3 hours or more (depending on when my mum got home) with my TV, any other electronics and favourite toys confiscated. Needless to say, I don’t talk to him anymore

First of all, to hell with the dad but Onyx's mom got me tight as hell. Sis, you did not have a single conversation with him over the trip, his absences or anything else that might have been bothering you. But have the audacity to reach into the devil's asshole and pull out this guy? That has been absent for 3 whole ass years and possibly traumatized your only son? You can't be serious. Girl, bye. You finna lose your son if you keep pulling stunts like this. This is the type of behaviors that make kids excommunicate later on. 🤦🏽‍♀️😡

This sperm donor (I refuse to call him a father at this point) is the type of man who tries to tie up their child with marionette strings in order to control them. I wouldn't be shocked if after pressuring Onyx to apply to specific universities and enroll in law school, he tries to arrange for him to get engaged to one of his client's daughters. 🙄 He strikes me as THAT type...and we all know in a lot of BLs, these asshole parents do things like this. As for Onyx's mother, she has a wet noodle for a backbone. This man has been absent for 3 years, then you have the nerve to go dumpster diving to bring this trash to your home? Nope, not cool. It's almost as if she's afraid of him too. I'm sure Onyx being locked in the bathroom was just a snippet of what she allowed to happen to her child (and she was probably getting abused to some extent as well). I'm glad Onyx spoke up and defended Keane, and it's clear he is having none of this sperm donor's bs... 😤

I’m sorry, this seems like an unnecessary arc. I’m not trying to be mean or rude or anything trust me. I love the story!!! personally I think it is, the author wants to keep a main storyline flow through the story, and at the start of the comic, the mother was always absent which led to Keane coming over on a whim. I think it's really good that we get to see it naturally flow through each part, and not just dump all the bad stuff out in one go and jump straight to them getting together, cos that's not how it usually works irl 🤷

Unfortunately, a lot of fathers put pressure on their first-born “to follow in their footsteps” and be even better at things then they were. I am sorry Onyx has such a father; good thing that he has Keane to stand with him. I can see one possible scenario where Onyx leaves home to stay with Keane while the father is there causing such problems.

Small side note: dunno if anyone mentioned but there’s a couple small typos in the dialogue. Hate the idea of dad staying for 3 weeks at this point in the story, but glad to hear there’s going to be a small time jump because we need this arsehole gone pronto.

I just have to say that the reflection in the glass behind Onyx and Keane is amazing ❤️ and also, can't stand his dad, and Keane was real sweet to try and stand up for Onyx 🥺 I can't imagine being shut down like that over and over again so really glad he's in his corner. OH!! And congrats on 100 episodes!! 🥳🥳🥳

I’m a bit confused by this episode. Onyx’s parents are divorced right? So the Dad has a different wife and Onyx has two Moms right? So the side comment about his Mom leaving him alone a lot was not about the woman at the dinner table right? And if the Dad hasn’t been involved in his life for three years why would he suddenly be interested in his son joining his law firm and getting into law school? He should’ve been involved the whole time to make sure Onyx was on track…

The woman sitting on the table with them is Onyx’s mother! 😋 It is shown through the flashback that all that Onyx’s dad ever cared about was whether his son would succeed or not and carry on with with his law firm. He kept getting good reports from Onyx’s school so he didn’t have a reason to visit until now, until he got notified that Onyx missed school. It’s only a couple of weeks before the exams too, so he came to stay and make sure everything would go as planned. I hope this clears it up a bit! 😋

This might have been part of why I was confused about his parents. Why would the Mom show up with the deadbeat Dad like a docile housewife and say nothing and let the Dad start dictating what her son is doing with his life? A single mom wouldn’t do that. I’d have to go back to the beginning and reread all the episodes where his parents come up. Not 100% sure about their relationship.

I have a feeling she’s dealt with abuse from the father before cause why would she be this quiet when he’s talking to Onyx that way. The few frames she’s drawn in too, she looks very dissociated and upset. As if she doesn’t know how to deal with the father’s presence.

Doesn’t matter! She’s barely in his life as it is. If you can’t be a proper parent, don’t be one or let someone else be. As a parent you take on the responsibility of another persons life for at least 18 years+ wherever you live. She’s choosing herself right now. I grew up in a family similar to this, and my mom would protect and fight as much as she could for us. This lady doesn’t even know much about her son and let that man into the house. I would never let someone degrade and control my child that way. Sorry. Not mad at you. Just that situation.

I get why lawschool and music are opposed, but as a trainee lawyer and a lyrical singer, I can tell you it goes very well together :) (well of course I know the problem here is the dad's attitude, but still ahaha)
