Something about DJ gives me Johnny vibes and especially after seeing fancams of Johnny performing it, DJ is definitely Johnny's song!

Also, this repackage came out on my birthday and I immediately added DJ to the B-Day playlist. My fave🥰

Personal opinion here: I do love when they switch it up where the rappers sing and the singers rap, because they just kill it everytime, BUT I usually prefer songs where they mostly adhere to their main positions because it just hits different. Like it just automatically sounds more neo to me idk. So while I love ay-yo I think it would have been a better title track if they had the main rappers rap and the main vocalists sing, but again that's just my preference. I think I personally like the switch ups better for the bsides. Skyscraper is also my favourite out of those three songs ♡

I just love how SM and the producers KNOW they can take chances with NCT 127 especially because the group can pull off anything! No one around right now would record DJ much less put it on an album. It's mainly a sound and style that went out of favor like 30 years ago. It's definitely no mistake that Stevie Wonder is named because it could easily be a song he made in the 70s or 80s (without the hip hop lean). Skyscraper is peak "no one is doing it like us" 127 and it's 100% true. Dem Jointz always gives them beats and production that holds their unique pocket but also moves it forward a bit every time. And yes. Kenzie and Dem Jointz have worked on many a song together (Punch, Obsession, Don't Call Me, Universe are a few). I think what a lot of people don't get about Kenzie is that when she isn't the music producer, she will supervise and produce the recordings in Korea because the main (usually foreign) producers/beat makers like Dem Jointz or LDN Noise can't be there and she will add the more "kpop" elements to the tracks. But yeah. She and Dem Jointz have collab'd on some iconic SM tracks.

Caitlyn! I haven't commented yet, but I'm so glad to have you back, I hope the January break helped you recoup your energy and the vibes for the year ahead~! Something was definitely missing from my month, and your reactions make my day, so yay! 💚 Now, on THIS repackage. It might just be recency bias (and the fact that I've replayed and overplayed the album to death) speaking, but when I say Ay-Yo, DJ, and Skyscraper all WASHED the rest of the album, I may or may not mean it. On first listen, I was GRIPPED by all three, in a way that I might not have been for the initial 2 Baddies comeback, and in completely different ways from one another. Ay-Yo was giving 1st Gen, '90s to early '00s vibes with the repetitive rhythm in the back and the very old school feel, yet more epic. It's SUCH a good repackage, and though at first listen it's jarring (as per the usual with NCT), it's also somehow so easy to digest? Like, it gets in your head super easy, and best believe I WILL always be chanting "AY-YO" and "LAY LOW" whenever they perform it. For DJ and Skyscraper, I couldn't decide which one's more of my favorite, because they scratch such specific itches in my brain. DJ makes me think, it's such an interesting tribute to Stevie and that old school R&B vibe, and it's almost as if it was a b-side for an album that'd have Touch as its title. Every time I listen to it, I discover something new, and that's why I love it. Like that key change (or, half-step up? not sure) in the chorus, it's so interesting every time it happens. The key flourishes. The transitional synth. For Skyscraper, however, it's somehow struck the balance between "dang, this is kinda repetitive" and "OH, THIS IS HYPE AS HELL" for me. The Bring the Noize comparison is so apt, like, that's also what I immediately thought of on first listen, and Skyscraper is the song I'd prefer to DJ just on the energy level alone, without having to think too much about it. Overall, I'd say this album is truly one of their best, if not THE best. I'm not going to lie, Sticker-Favorite had some skips for me (🤐) but 2 Baddies-Ay-Yo... Oh, THIS album. THIS! ALBUM!

Skyscrapers is also my favorite

i agree with u ! i know some ppl were upset about the whole oh main rappers not rapping singers not singing etc but i think they delivered pretty well for positions they dont normally do. and i think ppl should see that as a good thing as u said how thats a flex to be able to do. i love getting to hear taeyong and mark sing so i enjoyed it!

not only did taeyong and mark took part in writing lyrics for skyscraper but they also have credits for composing it too!!! a masterpiece by our two aces i hope 127 does perform it sometime

I just want to say that I’m sooooo pleased for having seen them live in Brazil and the next week listen to Ay-Yo which was also produced by TropKillaz 🥰 this is insane!!!

Skyscraper is AMAZING AAAAAAA I love the transition with Johnny saying “I’m gonna make you free” in the coolest way 💚 that’s when I remember how good it is to be an NCTzen!!

On both DJ and Skyscraper, Taeyong and Mark have credits for both lyrics and composing. On DJ, Taeyong said that the song has Stevie Wonder feels, so it looks like he shouted out Stevie in his lyrics. Trust me, when you see the live stage for DJ and hear it more, you'll love it more. I REALLY hope there will be a live stage for Skyscraper in the future! TT I really like some of the cadence changes on the rap parts, especially Taeyong's 2nd part (I think).

skyscraper had me FLOORED on the first listen, and i think i screamed involuntarily when haechan started rapping lol and then after i heard mark's rap i paused to check the credits and realized not only dem jointz but also mark and taeyong worked on this...i should've checked the credits first because i was not ready for it. it's like my second favorite nct track of all time now, how dare they haha. when you started the song over after the first chorus i was so happy because i can't get enough of this track! and i agree with you that yuta's voice is so gorgeous (and no him being my own ult is not a factor here either haha!) his voice just stops me everytime, in this song, in crash landing, in so many others, i just think its such a beautiful tone that can also be really powerful too, just like him i guess haha. thank you for sharing, i was so excited to hear your thoughts! <3

They ATE Skyscrapper!! As soon as Mark came in with his rap and the way it flowed, I knew this was the one! I literally have Ay-Yo and Skyscrapper on a loop on my Spotify hahahaha. I knew you would love this entire repackaged. They never disappoint with these.

OK, I am probably the only one who has mixed feelings about Skyscraper. I looooove the verses and the bridge. Like that saves the song for me really. It’s so good. But the chantry chorus? Mwoa… It got a little better after listening to it more (because these three songs have been on repeat ever since they came out) but you know what almost ruined the entire song for me? the “ and now the breakdown…” Ugh I hated it in Time lapse too. And now again??? I was so sad…. But there are pieces in the song that get me so hyped that I have come to accept it. I just try to ignore it haha. DJ was such an easy listening for me I loved it from first listen and I like it more and more. I don’t hear the clashing bits… It’s perfect for me. Ay-Yo might be my favorite NCT title track. OOH it makes me so happy hearing the “Are you ready” and I loooove the Chorus. These three songs are amazing. Love the repackage.

Nothing is more satisfying than seeing NCT 127 exceed my expectations. Everything about skyscraper: composition, lyrics, production, rap flow, vocals, is perfect. They’ve mastered that neo hip hop sound with this one, where rap and vocals are perfectly intertwined 🤌🏼✨ and that chant chorus is probs my favorite yet! It’s so fire 🔥 I would not be surprised if it ends up in my top 5 for this year hehe 💚

Razi

i loved all the three of the songs this cb but I just can never get over how yuta does not get many lines. The man is talented and needs more to do.

DJ reminds me so much of Stevies "In Square Circle" album its crazy

Jazzysanc

I loved all three songs on the repackage. But, I'm with you...Skyscraper just did it for me.... OMG 😲

Isabel

This is *so* late but the producer said that DJ is 100% an homage to Stevie! There are even direct musical quotes from... Sir Duke I believe?
