This mixtape was about the 3rd thing I ever heard from Korean music world. My daughter told me to listen. It changed everything for me as to being aware and open to "foreign" music. I can't tell you how much I love it. Favorites are Seoul and Moonchild. But the whole thing is just another piece of his world that is just beautiful.

I pretty much LOVE everything he puts out. Ok, a few of his earliest works are questionable, but he gets a pass cause he was a child. LOL. Anyway, my two favorites from him are Joke and Everthingoes. I’ve mentioned this before because it stresses his range. But for this mixtape, my top three in order are 1) Everythingoes, obviously, 2) Forever Rain and 3) Moonchild. So glad you enjoyed it, too.

I literally have a tattoo with lyrics from Everything Goes. Mono is a masterpiece.

Mono changed me as a person & how I think about music in general. Although called “mono”, the antonym of “Stereo”, the sonic landscape of this mixtape surrounds you, envelopes you, sometimes in a chokehold, sometimes in a hug, sometimes a figure standing behind you nudging you along, and sometimes sitting next to you in the dark and holding your hand. I have listened to this mixtape so many times & I have never failed to shed tears, & not always at the same songs or phrases, depending on the day. Each song listened to in order is like a chapter in the story he is telling. Starting with the melancholy of Tokyo, you then journey through Seoul where it feels like you are standing still, even in a vibrant atmosphere, “Moonchild”you start to feel comfort in feeling you are different than others. “Bad bye” is like an interlude of what has passed & what you are about to welcome. “Uhgood” you grapple with knowing you are all you need, but frustrated you still feel lonely. “Everything goes” feels like a mantra; a way to remind ourselves that we can get past these difficult moments. “Forever Rain” to me feels like “we in this Bangtan Shit for life” lol, in a good way, finally accepting the good with the bad. Although not eligible for a Grammy, it surely deserves one. RM is a poet and almost like a musical therapist. Mono is quite simply a masterpiece.

Omg I’m gonna check it out! I’ll probably just listen to it on my own seeing that this week is already pretty full and idk if I’ll have time to film it but man badbye was so good!

I forgot to say, but I feel like RM’s first Mixtape “RM” was him purging his anger and frustration(But I’m not sure because I haven’t hear all the tracks on it) and “Mono” is him purging his loneliness, pain and depression.

You're right about it all invoking similar aural moods and flows into one story He calls it a playlist instead of a mixtape for this exact reason. He took over 2 years to finish this, starting from when he released his first. A few months before he released it is when he changed his name to RM. He said he didn't want his name, Rap Monster, to immediately set either conscious or subconscious expectations for his music before people actually listen to it (experience it) that it was always going to be hard-hitting, and therefore he felt it would limit his future in music. Plus, he said he'd moved beyond the aggression of trying to prove his worth & anger at injustices etc, and had passed into trying to find meaning or reasons in the way the world works, including the injustices, not good or bad meaning but rather just sorting out the reasons that just ARE. Of all the things he's ever uttered that REALLY changed how I see the world/existence and gave me comfort, & come back to often, is that he thinks that maybe the purpose to living (meaning of life) is to be lost.

I remember the day this mixtape dropped and I listened to it entirely without looking at the lyrics and I was crying by the end of it. After reading the lyrics Moonchild and Everything Goes are my 2 favorites. Those two songs felt like a message to remind me to keep on going but it also felt like he was giving me a hug.

Mono is my favorite album of all time and it holds a really sacred place in my heart. Aside from my faith, it moreso than anything else has helped me through my darkest times. Most of the time I just play the whole album because I think its most powerful as a whole.

Moonchild is my go to song to just chill and forget about the world around me. Wish bad bye was longer. RM just featured on eAeon's new song Don't, it's really good.

RM says this song is actually a playlist for us. That is why the songs are connected and the sound is familiar. This album is my all time fav album ever. Everytime i listen to it i cry a lott
