To answer your question "Where was Alucard?", I give you two answers as the internet is fairly divided. According to the games, Alucard WAS there but his mother asked him not to intervene for his and everyone else's sake. Or as the TV version isn't a "direct" retelling of the games, Alucard was NOT there and was out traveling like Dracula, as Dracula didn't know about it until it was too late, perhaps Alucard didn't either.
