Soon, L is gonna understand how Kirra is killing his victims, with the Death Note, and that Shinigamis are real. It's important and just a part of the final answer, about Light being Kirra.

Right there, this episode is mostly about L's plan, putting Matsu on television to trap Higushi. And come on L, you can see that all of what he wants it's to know his real name and soon you'll see why, and you'll just have to connect the dots.
