"the balloon closest to the top left will be the first read, even if it's not the top-most balloon" I instinctually read that balloon AFTER the other because it wasn't the top-most. Reading styles may vary, these particular rules only apply in some cases and should be taken with a grain of salt.

Yeah this was made quickly and I missed a few nuances. For panel 2 I'd meant to say it's AMBIGUOUS whether readers would start at the topmost or leftmost one, so it's better to make the top AND leftmost one the first balloon
