Sorry this took so long! I use 3D models to keep backgrounds quick and more-or-less consistent, and so had to build the Jones' house from the ground up.

Just so there's no misunderstanding, even growing up I've never felt comfortable stepping into a house that looked like this. Like, there's devout, and then there's ensuring nobody can question that devotion. Even if it's sincere there's always a feeling of one-upsmanship, a declaration of how much you've purged ALL other interests from your life.

Ok Ill admit I didn't see this coming, this could get awkward rather quickly. Hope the girls make it out in one piece.

Oh, I been in that situation before, so I can relate. I think the roof-angel ornaments is a new thing, though. I find i'm worse at it though when it comes to elderly people - they ALWAYS have stuff that's hard to comment on.

I sometimes wonder if houses like this are trying to prove something, like they're trying to act like Christians, but really aren't

Where I come from, the spiritual path one is on, if it gives solace, is the right one for that person. That said, it's important to not invade another's space--that violates spiritual law. This is pretty much beyond awkward, and totally unfair to one's guests. It also suggests you're not as secure in your religion as you might think. When you walk into something like this, it's best to smile and nod and retire as quickly and politely as possible. In this case, the girls would be perfectly justified in cutting things short if the conversation goes where I think it could very well go. Otherwise, grin and bear it and talk about kids, fashion, food and cute cat videos you saw on YouTube. Yeah. That's the ticket.

My wife is of Irish stock and we were over there on a family reunion. We visited an elderly relative of hers who's tiny bungalow was the most Catholic thing I've ever experienced, right down to a TV which, the whole time we were there, was showing a live feed from the Vatican featuring the pope being driven round the square blessing the Cardinals. She wasn't showing off at all, this was how she lived, in a tiny space full of plaster saints and pictures of the pope and Jesus. It was utterly alien, but at the same time I've been in rooms which, if you replaced the saints with Star Wars figures, would have been disturbingly similar.

All that said, everyone's walking around without pants. So there's that...

I am totally okay with the world design breaking peoples' minds if you think about it too hard. Which is why the story setting probably won't go anywhere except casual/urban chic, because there are so many other places no pants would draw even MORE attention to itself
