At the moment, on average, I get nearly 40 requests on monthly sketch suggestions. For at least half of them I do whatever I like but I also always try and fit in two or three people I haven't done sketches before.

At the same time, if you've been on the tier for several months and have put in requests but haven't received any for over about 6-8 months then it is entirely possible that I've been inadvertently skipping over you. Now, I maintain that the sketch requests are just that, requests, but you also are supporters of mine and I do have a bit of a responsibility to let you know why I've skipped your requests, or if we can have a dialogue about how to help tailor your requests better.

That said, if you have made requests for six months and still haven't picked any of yours, please let me know. I can't ALWAYS promise I can do yours immediately but I would like to start keeping a list of people who're most-due for sketches rather than playing eenie-meenie and inadvertently keeping some people off.

At the very least it should help me with my anxiety over picking the wrong items month-to-month

(A short version of this notice will be amended to the monthly sketch stream rules, just to ensure people know there's an option to let me know)

Certainly makes sense! Would it help to have a spreadsheet with conditional formatting showing the last month someone got a sketch to serve as a point of reference?

Rainshadow

Could go honor system too. Maybe those of us whose requests got picked recently could lay off asking for a few months?

I don't have very much faith in the honor system, and it's not that I don't think people wouldn't want to be honorable, I think it's that the ten percent of people who didn't get the message would then be overwhelming the request slots. Besides, if people only posted requests the precise time they felt like they were due, then I'd feel obligated to do EVERY request that month and I don't feel like asking people to not post would actually reduce the request list by all that much

rickgriffin

This would help. Now, the data wouldn't be a perfect representation of the selection process, as some people are a lot more studious about putting in a request every month than others, and still others haven't been continual pledgers, but it should help me make my "random" pics less random.

FTR some of us don't mind not having been picked. I'm here to support, and if I get a sketch at some point, I guess that's cool too. (Besides, some of us request weird stuff, it's to be expected ;09 )

I know, but I still feel like it'd be better praxis if I at least tried to play favorites a little less

The simplest way I could think of implementing it would be having a sheet with patrons' names, the last month they had a request drawn, and the most recent month they submitted a request. From there, conditional formatting could be used to create an easy visual shortcut when the gap between those two date columns reaches the 6+ marker. If you want, I could whip up a template on Google Sheets later tonight you can use. (Can you tell I'm running monthly reports at work today)

That's a smart move. How would it work though? Do your patrons announce if there request have been done in the last 6 months. Or are you keeping tabs on patrons through a schedule?

rickgriffin

I am gonna try and keep a spreadsheet about who's most due for sketches, but I will also try and get people to let me know at point of request if they haven't had any picks for at least five months

Sounds good😀
