What's your process for tackling an unfamiliar pose? Do you look up references, or sketch a bunch of thumnails, or something else?

If the pose cant be constructed straightforwardly (level perspective, upright body, limb sections straight) Then I usually figure it out with sketching, if it's more complex than that I try to look up a reference or I just do a lot more sketching to try and wing it
