Last summer I did a test with a wonderful model from Belgium: Lola.

Inspired by great artists like Stefan Rappo or Sylvio Testa I always had a shoot in mind about a model doing beautiful poses in dark water. While we were in Sicily I did some tries in the pool, but unfortunately the results didn't turn out to be what I was looking for. First of all it was very difficult for the model to achieve a good posing while trying not to sink and second: I couldnt get the water as dark as I wanted in post production.

So I took a closer look at the pictures of the photographers who inspired me and decided to buy a stand up pool for the garden. It's size was 2-3m and it was 1m high. Unfortunately it was blue and I expected this to be a problem in post production again, so I bought also huge slizes of black molton fabric, to cover the whole pool with it.

We did the shoot at the end of the summer and unfortunately the weather turned out not to be very good. In fact, it was cloudy and not very warm so the cold water, which I used to fill up the pools stayed cold. Not really good conditions.

Even though Lola was a very tough fighter, we could shoot only two short rounds for a couple of minutes. The water was just too freezing. I event used two cameras with two different lenses so I wouldn't loose any time exchanging the lens.

Over all, I'm happy with the results for the first attempt. But if I'll give it another try, I will do it in July or August and use more water ;)
