Behind the Scenes - Context for the 3D Platformers video (Patreon)

As many of you already know, Mimi, my beautiful fluffy cat, passed away unexpectedly last April at 9 years old. This really put a wrench in a lot of things, and I couldn't really enjoy things or focus on a writing project for a bit. While I was coping with this tragic event, I turned as I so often do to video games for comfort. For most of that year I really had no desire to play games at all up until this, and so it was nice to sit down and play through all of the open world 3D Platformers that were on Nintendo Switch Online. I grew up with Spyro and Tomb Raider and in the years since have tried these games before but had never played all the way through them. There's a feature that allows your friends to join your session watch you play, so I had my best friends walk me through Ocarina of Time over voice chat. My husband also grew up with games like Mario 64 and Banjo Kazooie so it was a lot of fun to take turns with him playing through the levels. It was really soothing to return to this genre and experience it in a new way, and along with my loved ones these games really helped me through a hard time. I actually felt like writing about something again finally over the summer after having a creative block all year, so I started writing about all these games I had just played. So this script is really like a little thank you to the games that were there for me when I needed them.

And of course, thank you to everyone in the Egg Hangar discord who chatted with me about them when I was trying to figure out what I wanted to say. A lot of our conversations ended up in the final draft :) I'm lucky to have viewers with such wonderful thoughts to contribute to these conversations.
