Content

A little bit of information, and I know a lot of simmers know this, but for those new to custom content: there are only certain types of files that go in your Mods folder. The two main types are .package and .ts4script. Now, you can have folders in your Mods folder to help you organize your content, and I highly recommend doing so.

One of my favourite organizing tips is to have a folder that contains mods that are frequently updated.

However, you just need to remember to put .ts4script files either directly in the main Mods folder, or one folder deep. For example, do not put them in a folder that's inside another folder, not including the Mods folder. But you can put .package files deeper.

Example:

Mods/Clothing/Tops/Crops/Sentate_Best Crop Top Ever.package

Regarding why certain Mods or cc always need updating, it is not usually the fault of the creators. It's because the game updates and quite often certain coding lines get changed (programmer stuff). Once that happens, any mod that affects those changed lines also has to be updated.

UI Cheats Extension is a prime example of an amazing mod that gets updated with almost every major game update. This is because it affects so many different areas of the game. Do not hate on the mod creators, they work as fast as they can first to find what's changed and then to update their files to get them to you as seamlessly as possible.

All you have to do is delete the old Mods and install the new ones. That's not too much to ask, right?

So, if you're new to downloading Mods or cc, you can expect .ts4script Mods to be on the list that will need to be updated. We've been lucky recently where not a whole lot has changed in the game for careers and Aspirations, so they usually are fine, but always check.

Mod managers can be helpful. There is one super amazing mod manager out there, if you want it. As well, CurseForge's app automatically tells you when a mod has been updated and all you have to do click one button and it's done for you. This works only for Mods that have been downloaded from their site. How would they know if something was updated on Patreon or TSR(which also has their own mod manager)?

While that might seem like a lot of info, believe me when I tell you that as time goes on, as with most things, it will become second nature to you.

No one expects someone new to custom content and mod downloading to know any of it. I believe the old adage applies that says there are no dumb questions. Trust me, if someone tries to belittle someone else for their lack of knowledge, they're not worth listening to. There are trolls and bullies on every corner in every neighborhood, and this community is no exception.

So, going back to the beginning, if you notice .png, .jpg, .mp4 or file types besides .package or .ts4script, they should only be there if the creator says they have to be, and it's rare.

Be diligent, the health of your game is your responsibility, and you should be having fun, not having to go through and find out what's wrong every day. Stay on top of game updates, and know that when there is one, you'll likely need to check your mods and sometimes custom content.

When in doubt, ask. You're almost guaranteed to get the help you need.
