Greetings All!

Finally another Scabbard! After the initial design, I added the optional rule as a small love letter to the woefully underutilized Frost Brand.  The lore and flavor of the item seem especially useful as we have just now begun to be snowed in, so I hope everyone is staying safe out there.

Without attunement and as a 1d4 additional cold, it was deemed best to establish it as a Rare item. As for it affecting magical blades, it is an experiment in balance. Obviously it would clash with an item such as Flame Tongue, but I wanted it to still affect something such as a +1 blade giving it some extra longevity.  We’ll see how it does after some playtesting.

Updates: New.

Truly, as always and ever sincerely, Thank You.

- Hos (Dungeon Scribe)

Description:

This was crafted with metal cold-forged among the northern reaches by a tribe descended from the survivors of the Endless Winter. This secretive clan is long believed to have mastered survival in the coldest environments imaginable. This scabbard is kept as a sign of adulthood by all who survive to age. Occasionally they make their way into the hands of common folk. Always known to be cold to the touch and a layer of frost on the metal, they are often kept clad in hides to guard from peering eyes.

Tabs:

  • This magical scabbard will adjust to fit any size of Dagger to a Greatsword, and it can be worn on the belt or back.
  • Cold Snap: Any weapon kept within the scabbard for a consecutive 8 Hours gains an extra 1d4 Cold damage for the next 24 hours. This property has no effect on Magic Weapons that deal Fire Damage.
  • Fire Eater: As a reaction, when the user receives Fire Damage, the user can let the blade siphon up to half of the fire damage dealt. This feature can only be used once during the 24 Hour duration of Cold Snap.

Optional Rule:

  • Special: When an attuned Frost Brand is kept within this Scabbard for 8 Hours, for the following 24 Hours it deals 2d6 Cold Damage instead of the standard 1d6. They are also able to use the Fire Eater feature twice.
