Above ground, the entrance to this dwelling appears to be a simple grave, but for those that pierce the glamour covering it, a much deeper mystery is revealed. A false door at the back of the grave leads to a flight of stairs, and a natural cavern beneath the graves.

The anteroom is littered with bones, chew toys for the first creature of the night the resident keeps to warn of intruders, and to keep meddling peasants at bay. To the left, a passage splits, one way is home to a swarm of bats, the other, a curious underground lake with unmistakable signs of being a bathing and laundering place.

To the right, a small rough-hewn room serves as a stocked wine cellar, and deeper, simple supplies riddled with rats, ready to answer the call of the night should their master call.

And at the rear, a living chamber, stocked with the necessities any Undead could require to amuse oneself during the daylight hours.

So! I like to make maps that tell a bit of a story, and with this one, I had on my mind what the living quarters might look like of a small town vampire. And in particular, a vampire that might even be resistant to the natural urges to drink the blood of innocents. Perhaps an NPC known to the players had died, and risen again, and is now in the care of a local cleric. Supping on the blood of animals, and feeding their remains to his loyal pets, they've even procured a torture rack that the vampire uses to lock himself up when the thirst for blood is overwhelming.

With local livestock and pet populations being picked off, it's only a matter of time before farmers and hunters petition adventurers to look into the mystery, but only particularly perceptive and detail-oriented characters might put together the clues to learn the truth. An ethical dilemma for any party.
