Ok guys, real talk now. Picarto now allows you to make private streams, so the idea of having private streams instead of google hangouts is possible now. we started using google hangouts because it was the only way to have private videoconferences (skype was another idea but was more or less the same). Google hangouts is more engaging than a stream, because all participants can... "participate" more than just a text chat xD. But google hangouts came with it's limitations too, 10 people only, bad audio and video quality, and times when it gets jank and whatnot. On the other hand, picarto streams would allow infinite amounts of people, let me record with a much better audio and video quality, and it would allow me to play my own music for everybody to hear :O just like every regular stream. The downside would be that the participants would lose that extra "engagingness" of having their own cams, and all the fun stuff we've done with it in the past. Another thing is that doing the private streams wouldn't be free for me. It would only be 10 bucks/month so it's nothing of a concern (thanks to your patronage of course!) Another factor that has always troubled me is the low attendance to the google hangouts we've done. At first we had trouble getting everyone in, but after a while, less and less people ended coming up. of 144 people, only 6-8 always come to the hangouts. Would streaming be more attractive for you guys to come and enjoy the art? chat for a while? or maybe just leave it in the background while you mind your own business? Or do you still prefer the google hangouts? My objective with doing this "videoconferences" or streams or hangouts or whatever, is to give you guys an exclusive event that only you can enjoy. And the more patrons do it, the better! I'm going to make a "poll" in the comments. Please vote up stream, or google hangout, whichever you prefer. You can also leave your opinion too! I want to know what you guys think.

Just to be edgy, how about a hybrid (har har har) of those two. People that got a cam and/or feel daring enough to be "on the show" can be in the hangout while the shy folks that only wanna use text chat could be in the stream. Or is that hardware wise too much strain on your pc or internet connection?

I think streams are better for the sunday comics, though hangouts are nice for the after hours pages.

hmm maybe in audio yes, but i find it hard to put the hangout window in there and still have my performance as usual :S It could be like, a stream with added commentary :p

Streams would be much better imo, The one time I "could" join (it was a bit late, I'm at GMT+1), I was in bed and really did not feel like getting myself in a hangout, just to end up sleeping on my laptop. A stream on the other hand, I could put my computer on like a chair, and watch till I sleep without causing anyone problems. (and taking a spot)

i think this would be a cool thing to test if possible. i really enjoy the hangouts (when i get to go to them) because of all of the shenanigans but i think it is more reasonable to do a stream.

i personally would prefer the streams. For the accessibility.

Ok, stream it shall be for sunday webcomic doings. There's an overall agreement on that! Let's hope this change brings more people in n_n

I like your idea :o i think the people in the after-hours hangouts are the most active people so it shouldn't be an issue to continue using them o_o unless you guys have anything against it? (garrett, xavier, arukath, john who hasn't shown yet or bernd who is usually too late for him to attend)

I haven't made a stream yet, mostly because my timing is terrible, but what about a regular Picarto stream with the option of a Patron only Skype call?

Garrett

I believe people didn't want to use skype (or at least, I didn't) because it's a terrible program and full of government backdoors.
