Yeah the studio didn’t know what to do with this franchise in the beginning, Which is why they completely shifted gears (pun intended) with this film and didn’t include the original cast (after the 2nd one underperformed).

Fun fact about Han: his character's full name is Han Seoul-Oh. So yeah, they wanted him to be as cool as possible. Also: the character of Han actually originated in Justin Lin's movie Better Luck Tomorrow. Same actor playing the same character; when the director came to the Fast franchise, he brought the actor/character over with him so, technically, that movie is an unofficial part of this universe.
