Zach Snyder JL isn't canon to DCEU. The later films follow the events of the theatrical release.

hey seb can you please watch Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes they are all very good movies

Inhuman Paradox

Actually, neither JL is canon. The canon JL is the version Zack had in late 2016/early 2017, the "compromised" version. Aquaman was already shooting by the time Joss' rewrites to JL happened, and both Patty Jenkins and James Wan have said they never took Joss' rewrites into account, going as far as to (On the contrary, Wan reportedly met with Snyder when editing Aquaman to make sure it was canon to what he had, rather than Josstice League, https://www.cinemablend.com/news/2465375/zack-snyder-supposedly-helped-james-wan-undo-some-of-joss-whedons-justice-league-changes). "'I think that all of us DC directors tossed that out just as much as the fans did,' Jenkins said about Whedon’s 'Justice League' theatrical cut" - https://www.indiewire.com/2020/12/patty-jenkins-slams-whedon-justice-league-contradicts-wonder-woman-1234603680/ However, ZSJL is not what Zack had in early 2016. Zack un-did some of the changes made to the film during production, such as two character designs and one character's backstory that contradicts Aquaman. This is because ZSJL, as the "uncompromised" version tried to revert some of the Post-BvS changes to what they originally were in 2015 when the first JL script was written. Because of this, and the repeated usage of early 2017 Snyder trailers for JL in marketing other films (As opposed to using footage from either released film), the canon JL? Is one we don't have.

Seb make sure you watch the ultimate edition for Batman V superman not the theatrical cut

Inhuman Paradox

It's good advice to just always watch the director's cut with DC movies. Donner Superman II is better than Lester's, Watchmen director's cut is better, even Green Lantern's director's cut is slightly, slightly less terrible.

DK

Surprised you didn’t do V for Vendetta yesterday, November 5th. It’s a DC movie too.

fun fact: zack snyder confirmed that over 5000 civilians died in the final fight of this film fun fact 2: the satellite that superman crashes into is branded with "Wayne" meaning batmans probably pissed lmao

Ebony Cameron

Oh my god. I hope my husband goes to bed early tonight so I can n watch thissssss. I fuxking love this movie, I don’t care about the crap it gets. Welcome back Henry!!!!!!

Jonathan

It was fun watching this with you with you having no knowledge I like this better on rewatch but still prefer the original and it’s big cinematic feel way before CGI. You should still watch that sometime in the future it would be cool to compare.

One of my favorite DCEU movies however listening to Sebs commentary I realize how cringe the third act is, like I already knew it was terrible but this just burst my "I'll let it slide" bubble, I remember reading an article that talked about the unnecessary destruction and how exhausted everyone was at the time of release of movies continuing to do that. I think it definitely undercut how grounded the first two thirds felt.

Inhuman Paradox

Thing is it's not unnecessary in this case. The Black Zero Event is meant to be a mirror for 9/11, as Superman's story in the DCEU is an immigrant story (Much like Siegel and Shuster originally intended). It's why there are so many Muslim-American Snyder fans, his Superman represented how they felt being blamed for the actions of terrorists. Because of that, it needs to be honest in displaying how awful the destruction is. For more on this, I recommend reading Sheraz Farooqi's excellent article on the Snyder films. https://cinemadebate.com/2017/10/20/ultimate-immigrant-story/ The third act is fine. As well, it's still some of the best VFX in CBM history, one of the few times we got to see Dragon Ball-level fighting in one of these.

Inhuman Paradox

Fun fact: Him reading Plato is not a coincidence. Superman's arc is that of Plato's "just man" in the DCEU. Also, all that mechanical armor Zod wears? COMPLETELY CG. The DCEU's CG got progressively worse after this film.

Is this going on YT?
