this is after days of future past( at least when they were in the past) and it won't connect to the earlier x men movies because the timeline was changed in days of future past.

the last line from Charles and Eric about what do you do when they come for you kids at the your school and Charles replies "that he feels a great deal of pity for the poor souls that come to the school looking for trouble" is a direct line from the end of the original first movie when Magneto was captured and playing chess with Charles in the plastic prison.
