I’m very glad that this show is able to continue subverting expectations, in a good way. Nick and Imogen could have easily been dragged out for most of the season. But the fact that Nick was able to be so honest with her before things got complicated/messy, and for her to appreciate that honesty… 🤯😁😁 This is also the episode that I felt Tao went from being overprotective to insufferable. I’m aware that he is more likable in the graphic novel and that there is more information that explains his and Charlie’s friendship (no spoilers). However with the amount of information we are given in the show, he’s annoying AF, regardless of his intentions.

I really don't like Monopoly 😂 It's like spending an hour on a game of luck that people pretend is skill. That bowling/arcade place was did look very similar to one by me, so maybe they do all look pretty similar. I'm sorry but I'm trying to give Tao a chance but he's pushing me further away every episode. Him being a so called "good friend" is coming off very performative to me. He keeps trying to deflate Charlie at every chance he gets and he just doesn't need to do that. Even if Nick was everything he thought he was, it still just doesn't look good to me. The one plus for him this episode was when he stood up to Harry, even though as Charlie said, he could have made it worse- I still thought that in that particular situation it was fine though.

Our local bowling alley is P I T I F U L compared to that one. It's extremely dated. Only a couple pinball/air hockey machines. Don't even want to think about how old the bowling shoes are. I'm usually playing pool anyway.

The whole thing with Tao makes you understand him a little more If you’ve read the novel (Trying to explain without spoilers) Tao was the one who accidentally outed Charlie because someone overheard him. So I might be wrong but Charlie has some reservations about telling Tao partly because of this and doesn’t want nick to go through the same thing, but also he cares so much about what Tao thinks so a mix of both Also Charlie being bullied really affected him (a lot more than I think is shown) which they’ll go into if they renew the show (You find out in the books early on but there are hints all through this first season very subtle) Tao was there and saw it all. And from his perspective. He doesn’t know nick like Charlie. The friends he hangs around with remind him of the bullies and is very protective and doesn’t want Charlie to get back to the bad place

Charlie kind of made me a bit angry when he told off Tao for sticking up to Harry. Especially since he wasn't just defending Charlie. He was also defending himself. I'd be pissed if my friend made got angry at me for defending myself. It's one of the situations where I understood Tao's frustration with Nick prioritizing over his other friends. Also, to be fair, from Tao's perspective, Nick does appear to be playing Charlie. Tao think's he's messing with Charlie because Charlie's feelings are pretty obvious (previous episodes have made it clear that everyone thinks they act like a couple). And Tao (from his limited information) sees Nick stringing Charlie along. It would be obvious to Tao why if Nick wasn't in the closet. As omnipresent viewers, of course, we know that Nick is the sweetest guy. But because Tao is missing this information, the outside perspective just looks like a guy toying with Charlie's feelings. Yes, Tao is rash. Yes, he definitely has a fear of change and of losing his friends. And he definitely can go overboard. But I do think his heart is in the right place. And this was the first episode where I kind of think his rants were a bit justified.

Well said. I was trying to think of a way to explain where Tao is coming from, but you said it perfectly

I remember in middle school people pressuring me to go out with a girl. I did and knew it was wrong and ended it a week later. This episode brings up so many memories. Happened again in freshman year of HS. Just a very relatable feeling with what Nick's going thrhough. Great reaction Seb! xoxo <3

When I was in high school, and not out yet, my friend group always pressured me to know who was my crush. So I always had to pretend to like some random girl in our year, and they would try to get us together, it was gay nightmare, and to top it off, it was a catholic private school.

I joined for Heartstopper but have been watching lots of other reactions... Star Wars IV, Thor: Ragnarok, Not Another Teen Movie, and more to follow. I love your earnest and humorous reactions.

I mean, it's not weird Tao is acting like that. Nick is 'friends' with the guys who bullied Charlie in the year before. So I get it he's being very protective of his friend who it looks like he's gonna get very hurt
