Looks like you guys want to see Get Out for the next Sebscreammm moooovie! I saw a few of you saying that I should watch a few of the listed movies and I am definitely down for that. Was wondering what movies I need to watch before watching "Scream" or "Scary movie" as you guys were saying I had to watch movies before!

To watch before Scream: Halloween (1978), Friday the 13th (1980) and sequel (1981), A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984). Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Before you watch Scary Movie you should watch Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. I think those are the two main films that are being parodied. There are a lot of references to other movies but you could probably get by with knowledge from pop culture. Maybe.

For scream you should see halloween, Friday the 13th and nightmare on elm street. There’s a lot of references and a few spoilers to these films in scream

For Scream, I would say only Halloween (1978) is referenced multiple times throughout. Some Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street plot points are mentioned but nothing not already in mainstream pop culture (aka nothing that would ruin those movies for you). Scary Movie requires at least Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer to be watched (other pop culture references but not required viewing IMO)

If you didn’t have a plan to watch any/or all of those other older horror movies mentioned, you could definitely walk into Scream blind and still be able to follow the plot (it’s just a matter of appreciating the references to those films mostly)

Scream ruins the plot of the first Friday the 13th, so start with Halloween, then Friday the 13th, then Scream ,THEN Scary Movie.
