I really enjoyed this movie and the constant twists and turns the film takes you on really worked. If you have not seen this movie it is definitely one to check out either with me on your own at some point :) I don't want to spoil any reactions but I really did love this movie!

Thank you so much! The opening sequence alone was one of the most expensive ones to that date and it still mostly holds up to this day :D The sounds you can here there are all the radio frequencies emitted from earth, and the further away we get the older the transmissions become. Only watching now, but in case you didn't realise, as it went out and away from earth, since transmissions are at the speed of light, going away from earth is literally going back in time.

I remember seeing this movie as a kid in theaters. It was unlike anything I’d ever seen! It came out at a time when aliens were really popular in films and tv. I had so many alien shirts and necklaces, aliens were everywhere! I’m so glad that you enjoyed this film 👽

“What’s Florida got to do with orange juice?” As an American, this comment had me cracking up…the State of Florida is by far the largest producer of oranges, and thus orange juice, in the US. It’s been that way forever so much that brands market there product as 100% Florida orange juice.

Oh man. I just finished watching the video and the movie. I can't find the words to thank you enough for this, I was surprised by how much it meant to me. It felt like watching it again for the first time. To quote Ellie: "They should have sent a poet". This made my whole week and I never cried so much during this movie like today. Thank you. Also I didnt remember it to be a bit on the longer side :D - As a small "Easter Egg", I never noticed until today how they call the Aliens Vegans. Growing up I only could watch the movie in German and I probably had no idea what a vegan was. Funny thing is, today I am an actual vegan ;)

It's so strange to see you watch this because I was just thinking about this movie. I'm actually heading on a trip tomorrow to go to Pensacola and I always think of this movie when I hear that name. I love this movie so much and I too have broken down with emotions from strange points in this storyline. I'm such a fan of movies that are more scientific. The original book was written by Carl Sagan who was an astronomer and huge name in the search for life on other planets. He died not long before the movie was released. SETI has actually said that this movie is the most accurate representation of SETI in any movie Hollywood has released, which isn't surprising considering how closely Carl Sagan worked with them.

Actually, California produces a majority of the country's oranges. Florida oranges are not stable enough for transport, because of the thickness of the skin, which is why Florida turns it into juice.

The signal, with a vertical line and two smaller lines is actually how radio waves work. It's a carrier frequency, with modulation (pulses either side). Edit: Just to add, you hear them say its hydrogen times pi. The idea is, that as hydrogen is the most abundant and fundamental element we know of, it makes sense that any other intelligent lifeform would understand and recognise it. For this reason, the voyager space crafts sent out in the 70s with the "golden record" has this on the back as a symbol so potential other lifeforms would know how to play it. Furthermore, you hear them say "primer", which I think just sounded weird to us as it was in an American accent. It just meant key, a way to understand how to read the data. The page edges, showing how to align them, then revealed the "primer" as a basic set of math equations, showing us how their real data should be interpreted. Side note: Related, I hope you watch Arrival some time, its such a special and unique film.

This was such a terrific reaction. One of the things I like about Seb's reactions is the wonder he feels watching movies. He genuinely seems acutely interested in everything he is seeing. That alone gives me a lot of joy, to be honest. This movie had lots of those moments. Has everyone noticed how well Seb edits his youtube reactions? On many levels, I have found I prefer his style of reacting to others I've seen. By a mile. Different bites for different likes, of course, but Seb is the bite for me. lol. Imagine the many behind the scenes things he does as a reactor, that we don't know about. You can see him evolving before our eyes. I tip my hat, sir. I admire your hustle. We appreciate you, Seb.

Some comments on the movie. At 2:00:09 you hear a 2-3 second "homage" to 2001 Space Odyssey in the soundtrack. Also it seems like a human trait is that when we come across "visionaries," we either want to crucify or worship them. Or both, as was done to the historical Jesus. Eleanor was trashed in that committee hearing and at the end, people were holding signs that put her on a pedestal. She could wear robes, start a new religion, and join the cadre of grifters. People would completely fall for it, because that is what we do. Seb asked us how we think we would handle communications from other beings. My opinion is that we would not handle it well. We would not come together and it would bring out the worst in us. In my country of the US there are huge anti-science pockets. In my opinion, they couldn't handle communications from other beings. Various individuals could, but not the masses. People would go insane. So no worries, the beings from other realms will leave us alone. :-) To the enlightened beings out there, we are just some bacteria on an ant hill, to paraphrase from the movie. I'm afraid we are left here to sort things out on our own. Good luck to all! lol

This is such a good movie. My third time watching, and it's still incredible. BTW, you need need need to check out the Back to the Future trilogy. Just sayin'.
