I interpret it that she sexually assaulted Charlie when he was a child (I think that's why he got PTSD flashbacks when he was making out with Sam and she was touching his leg and it triggered him. Also maybe why he says "maybe I wanted her to die" to his sister). The reveal is so heartbreaking. I love this movie

Yeah I think in the book she was molested by a family friend and she also molested him when he was little every like weekend she was over and used to do it when his sister was asleep
