Hello!

I hope your weeks are going so well. I'm gonna do another livestream this Thursday at 3pm over on the Climate Town YouTube page. It's called "Getting oil, coal, and gas companies off the government teat" and it's kinda just like it sounds - talking fossil fuel subsidies and what we can do to get rid of them.

See you there if you've got the time.

Best,
Rollie

CLIMATE TOWN LIVE: Getting oil, coal, and gas companies off the government teat

Did you know we subsidize the absolute hell out of the fossil fuel industry? Your tax money is getting siphoned off to pay to pollute your air. It's what I call a double whammy. We're gonna go through some seriously trash ads, some bad arguments, and end the shebang with a few real live boomer-style phone calls. Following the playbook from Climate Changemakers here: https://www.climatechangemakers.org/issue-briefing-ffs https://www.climatechangemakers.org/action-hub

I am too lazy to look, but the last livestream (?, maybe it was the last) where you called up some school officials telling them about the ability for them to get free busses. Did anything happen?

I have absolutely no idea how live-streamers do that… The chat. It’s pure madness!! I had to leave the stream this time, but I love to see you doing the live videos. Can you stream here on this platform? Is that a thing? Looking forward to your next video and hopefully another livestream soon. (Is there anywhere we can send you questions not in the chat after the video?) The PR and adverts for fossil fuel industries is absurd, as are most things that deal with corporate damage control (or advertising psychological influence). It’s been the same with major chemical industries. I don’t watch the live broadcast TV and it really does shock me how many fossil fuel ads I see running consistently on streaming platforms and social media. And always with that same cheesy AF smooth ‘you’re on-hold’ jazz music to push empathetic responses. The tactic is a good one… pull sympathy, shame, inspire to action, ignore the true problem is them, throw a plastic bottle into the blue bin and feel like the climate will actually stop changing now. We did it!
