Not an inaccuracy. This arc is taking place in the summer of 2005. The first DS model wasn't released in the EU until February of 2005. GBAdvances were still widely available and considerably cheaper. On an incredibly nerdy note, the Finns have likely been using GameBoys so long that the lack of backwards compatibility on the DS would be an issue.
