Hiya!

So here's our newest reaction to Enhypen, another one of HYBE's boy bands. We've been slowly getting through their roster to prep for the Game Caterers episode. Which I'm really glad I'm doing because honestly, before that episode, I didn't really listen to most of these bands. A little bit of TXT but none of the others. But honestly, I really enjoy just exploring other bands and sounds and whatnot.

(although, BTS will still be and always be my all time fav)

But we really liked these two MV's from Enhypen. It's our first taste of them and we're totally get bad boy vibes. Is that right? Is that their concept? Allison is really digging them. I personally really like Seventeen so I'm having fun with those guys.

Anyways, hope you like this reaction! Sorry I couldn't deliver it with a week's buffer for early access. Allison was out of town for most of the month and we didn't get to record this until a couple days ago. And so I kind of rushed through the edits. It's scheduled to go up on YouTube tomorrow - so you've got a one day heads start!

I'll have Le Sserafim up for you soon though! And then I have two Patreon Exclusive videos coming too. So lots of content coming your way!

Ok that's it for now. Bye!

2023-06-03 00:05:21 i loved the reaction. Enhypen is a group of 7, who debuted in November 2020 after Survival Show I-LAND with the Given-Taken MV. The members are: Jungwon(Leader and second youngest) Heeseung(eldest) Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo and Ni-ki(Maknae). And yes they are vampires haha, the two werewolves that appear in Drunk-Dazed are two members of I-LAND (K and EJ), who also debuted in a Hybe boygroup called &TEAM and their concept is werewolves haha.

I personally have a lot of issues with Enhypen, although mostly with I-Land. It's personal problems with the way they promote and the fact that Ni-Ki is underage. I just can't get past the sexualization of a teenager, and I hate companies that profit off of it. I had a lot of issues with Taemin and the way the industry treated him, so I constantly battle against wanting to support the artists and being ANGRY big mad at the companies for the way they treat their young talent. (Ni-Ki is 17 until December and was 14 at debut). I guess seeing the way Big Hit covered even the boys tummies with B21 stickers when they jumped in dance practices in early BTS years made me expect more vigorous protections in place. I know the age of consent is 13 in Japan (but only if your partner is 13/14) BUT the age of consent is 20 in Korea. It makes me want the artists, both male and female, to be treated with perhaps more consideration since so many of them leave their families behind to join agencies. The music is VERY good. The videos are not explicit or overtly skin showing or blatantly sexual, but some of the promotions are a little line pushing for me...AGAIN this is for me (personally) The members range from 17 through 21.

Enhypen is under BeLift that was bought by Hybe. They were not under Big Hit.

I know that, but thank you for pointing it out. I think I poorly explained in my comment. Big Hit is their own thing, and I was using them as an example of what I was USED to, not saying they were handling new groups differently. Big Hit is even distinct from HYBE, and although BeLift is under Hybe's umbrella, I don't think Hybe has any input on how they run their artists or business unless it impacts Hybe in a negative way. I appreciate the reminder for clarity's sake <3

Thanks for all that info! I didn't know they came from a reality show. I've heard of the program "I-LAND" but knew nothing of it. Sometimes I forget that there's that side of the k-pop industry that goes the televised route. Must've been nerve-wracking for them to go through all that in front of public eye. Does the vampire concept go through most of their discography? Or is it just for these two music videos? So interesting ...

Joanne Garcia

It's so interesting that you brought this up because we actually clicked on a comment in our LE SSERAFIM reaction that talked about this exact issue. You can see it towards the end of the reaction video. We didn't go too much into detail because we weren't really informed to go that deep into discussion. But I know that a lot of people have had issues with that in general. Hyein from NewJeans is also really young. I know that they train them young and debut them young - it just gets a uncomfortable when they are presented in a sexualized way sometimes. They're still kids! I do appreciate that Big Hit was good about covering up the boys when they were shirtless. It was funny and quirky in a way - which was totally new to a lot of westerners - but it created a safety barrier for them. And I respect that from a management standpoint. I'm learning more and more that HYBE is the big corporation that houses all these different labels - so they all started with their own different management styles and cultures. But I'm hoping they'll kind of learn from each other to do business better and to treat their artists better. Which is why I also love that they did the Game Caterers x HYBE retreat. It gave way for a lot of these groups to intermingle, which I don't think they did before. And now they're doing TikTok challenges together and JK's running into them at the company gym and singing their songs on his WeVerse Lives. I like the collaborative space of hey we didn't all start in the same place but we're all here now, so let's do things better. At least that's how I see it in my head. Hopefully that includes protecting those who are in it at a very young age. Anyways, those are my thoughts.

Yes, all or 90% of Enhypen's MVs have the concept of vampires, some are confusing because sometimes the storyline also links with &TEAM's storyline "the werewolves".

Joanne Garcia

That’s so interesting and weird but also cool. Is there like a specific order we should watch things? Like how the Bangtan Universe has an order? I love stuff like this. But it’s also connected to &TEAM?? The production team must be working around the clock on stuff like this! That would be such a dream job - I love planning stuff out like that.

Galice

Yes! There is a sort of "order" you an follow to better understand what's going on. I do have to mention they do not do things in a chronological order though. Their universe, includes TVs, trailers, concept pictures, performances, the Dark Moon Webtoons and Webnovels, many besides and a lot of articles. Here's a playlist of their eras in order and everything they've released, except for the Dark Moon OSTs cause that's another thing lol. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLBUrt8L5DH2ycBzASV_-ORQr-m8_ZbAg5 The Dark Moon Webtoons/Webnovels tie everything while giving some context of certain things, HOWEVER it's not all. Enhypen was the inspiration behind Dark Moon but they don't strictly follow every detail in their MVs. It can go in four different ways and all at once sometimes: 1. Their story as vampires (within the Enhypen Universe) 2. Their story as vampires (within the Dark Moon Universe) 3. Their story as 7 young boys with a common destiny and fate 4. Their story as idols in a very complex and highly pressuring industry Once you've consumed enough content, you can slowly differentiate them. Hope you enjoy your Enhypen journey as much I have!

Joanne Garcia

Oh cool! Ever since we did our last Enhypen reaction my YouTube algorithm has been pushing more of their content. And so I’m intrigued and want to watch more. Any recs on which we should do next? We’ve only done Drunk Dazed, Bite Me, Fever, Sacrifice, and a live version of Polaroid Love. Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated!!
