Not sure if you're aware, but the Duke of Milano that gets assassinated in the first part of the movie is also Caterina's Sforza father. He was also an ally of the Medici. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galeazzo_Maria_Sforza Uberto Alberti, The Gonfaloniere, the guy that has Ezio's family killed, betrays the Medici because during his time as a lawyer, the Medici bank evicted his family, which made him thirst for revenge against the Medici family. Father Maffei who decrypts the letter is also present in the game, he is one of the Pazzi conspirators that Ezio kills in San Gimignano. At 29:10 Ken is right, that is the moment the hidden blade is broken. That is why later in the game Ezio has to find a way to repair it and asks Leonardo for help.

One of the things I love is how much they made the in-game characters look so much like the actors in this movie. Or maybe it was the other way around and they had the character models before the actors were cast, but either way, some of them are uncannily close - Borgia, young Ezio, Federico, Maria, the Gonfaloniere, Father Maffei.... really good casting on the part of Ubisoft. I really wish they had done more of these little movies to sort of set the scene between each AC game. I get even making a short film is expensive, but this was a really nice little perk before AC2 came out.

It's crazy to think this was the first time that Ubisoft did like a short movie, originally it was 3 videos on YouTube. I also saw the short movie after playing 2. I tried to watch it before, but I was so lost, but with the context I was also hooked in. Up next Brotherhood, which I haven't finished
