Full watch-along reaction to DBZ Kai #159

It's no wonder why Vegeta is a lot of people's favorite character and Chris Sabat absolutely nails his speech here. I love the idea that the entire universe is watching the battle, even those in hell, even if it is filler, it makes for just such a good setpiece.

Goku is the person who made me keep going when I lost hope. He' Was the one who made me want to help others be their best selves. I'm so inexperienced but learning is so much more fun with gokus mentality. He's my number 1 and I'm glad you guys are enjoying the show so far. The best has yet to happen!

You guys should watch the movies Battle of Gods and resurrection F after Kai. They are better in terms of animation and the episodes of super that cover the movies tend to drag. I recommend watching the two movies and starting Super on episode 28 which is the start of the arc that follows after the movie arcs.

The good news about this arc nearing to a close is that you'll have plenty of dragonball to watch afterwards if you're still interested in the show. There's Super, the original Dragon Ball, and even GT.

When Vegeta (truly) met Bulma (in the anime, the manga doesn't explore this), he was in a very dark place. Not only Goku became a super saiyan and defeated Frieza, but a weird purple guy came out of nowhere and turned into a super saiyan too. He was nowhere near that level and he knew that very well. He pushed himself to the point of self-harm and had nightmares over his inferiority. And during this time, they got together, so I'm not surprised Vegeta might have done so for selfish reasons. He left at some point and became super saiyan in space, where his self-hatred came to a boiling point, which means whatever he tried on Earth didn't work. So Trunks and Bulma weren't the key, which is why he was so dismissive of them on the cell saga. My guess is that, because it didn't work, he convinced himself they didn't matter to him... until Cell killed Trunks. From then on he mellowed out a lot. Kid Trunks is so different from future Trunks because, even if Geets wasn't affectionate, he was still a constant presence in his life, which is honestly surprising of him.

Going to The final Z movies and then to DB super after this will be a great time. But don't forget the z movies you missed. Bojack Unbound Broly: second Coming Bio Broly Fusion Reborn and Wrath of the Dragon

Low born is a old european term to describe people who weren't of noble birth.

i recommend you to first start with the movies of "battle of godz" and Resurrection 'F', is better in that way.

Futafan

I’d recommend going to dbz super after this series since it’s canon theirs a lot of spin off movies and tv series after Kai or search chronological dbz order to help

Serpent King

Any plans to watch the original dragon ball after this is over? It does, after all, take place first.

I feel like Vegeta in his fight went in base form to try and gauge where he stood up as Goku did, also it takes a lot of energy/ki to go into Super-Saiyan and beyond. Elder Supreme Kai mentioned this a bunch of times that they rely too much on their transformations, thats why Gohan didn't even need to use his transformations after gaining the power up from him, he actually didn't need it, all his energy and power was available to him in his "Ultimate Gohan" form. They go into further detail with this later in Super, without spoiling, both Goku and Vegeta find different paths to power based on their fighting styles.

Yea don’t take Vegeta’s line literally. It just means that when he had a family he thought he would find that strength. This is also just simply a lot of Dragon ball history you’ve guys have missed. You’re starting the series late so you don’t fully know how evil Vegeta used to be. He was a demon lol even though Goku is a natural Goku really went through a SERIOUS journey to get his power. This is where knowing the original Dragon Ball comes in. This reaction was amazing!

I don't think Vegeta meant to imply that he only got a family in order to try and catch up with Goku. Vegeta does genuinely care for Bulma and Trunks. He's just acknowledging that, despite getting a family that he has genuine affection for, it didn't make him stronger on his own. Meaning that there's more than that to Goku's power. I don't think he set out to start a family because of Goku. When he turns into Maajin Vegita, he implies that he just kind of found himself with one, without even really realizing it, and had become "domesticated".

Yes this is truly a profound moment in Dragon Ball history, also it should be noted that Vegeta's whole point is that he really CAN'T help in this fight and that he would only get in the way. Especially since if he dies again he'll be permanently gone.
