You'd be surprised on how many Japanese characters are simply grey villians. Once you get to the Brothers battle, Pain arc and the war arc you'll see just how great these stories are.

You'd have to watch the actual Naruto anime to understand it fully but basically Kakashi was aiming for an enemy but Rin jumped in front and got purposely hit by it to not give intel to the enemy. That's when Obito happened to see what happened and went beserk.

that scene of obito going crazy was so dark in the anime. the cerography emotion was top notch, unfortunate that this was a slide show.
