It’s crazy how well the “Gohan peaked” Joke aged. Because he doesnt get a truly epic moment to himself until the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie that came out in 2022. (For context. The Cell arc came out in America in the year 2000. Gohan fans had it rough)

The reference of “fourth best villain” is tfs creators ranking 24 of their favorite villains throughout the whole series. King Piccolo got third, who is Piccolo’s dad and the best villain before Z. Vegeta got second, and Freeza got first.

I get why they say that Gohan peaked, cause narratively speaking he kinda did, but it's not exactly true. I don't want to spoil things though. Ya'll see what I mean, or at least I'll point it out cause it's a blink, and you'll miss it type of deal.

It's... absolutely true and I don't know why you would think otherwise. "I get stronger right?!" "Yeah.... but no." That's the whole plot, nothing omitted or misrepresented. He joins the rest of the crew where he gets more powerful but is insufficient to save the day. There's nothing more to it.

I said I don't want to spoil, but no, he simply getting stronger is not true at all, and I'm not referring to the most recent movie, or anything in Super. Gohan peaked at Cell Arc is the "Luke, I am your father" of Dragon Ball Z. The blame for this is mostly due to Super, and potentially GT. I don't remember GT enough to remember Gohan's story there, but it was probably like his arc in Super.

This is a complaint that came about purely because of Z, long before GT or super even existed, shared among many if not most fans for literal decades. I again don't know where you're getting this from. The most recent movie was like your only real chance at saying I was wrong and apparently it's not what you had in mind so... I'm even more confused. He, like Piccolo before him, becomes a stall device for someone else to solve the problem from this point on. He gets stronger but never strong *enough* again. Which means Cell is where his character arc peaked. And there is nothing more to spoil, this series isn't nuanced enough for there to be some glossed over factoid that somehow alters this plain as day conclusion. Tien tri-beaming Cell into the ground is precisely how narratively powerful Gohan is for the rest of the series.

Honestly, if you like the Buu Saga enough, my recommendation afterwards is to go *all the way back* to the original Dragon Ball. That one is much more plot heavy, although it’s a bit more adult-oriented in its humor.

When Goku tells Gohan to get Cell in a year, it’s a reference to how long it took for the next episode to release. Cell was last seen punching Gohan while Goku explained that Gohan could beat Cell lol
