Knight Spearhead

Most soldiers back in the day were conscripted to serve under there lord or there lords council members if you didnt follow the orders of the person you served under it was viewed as treason and treason is execution. That said in the holy land most of the troops in the holy land around this time frame were mercenaries "its Istanbul not Constantinople" lol

IIRC the official name only became Istanbul once the Ottoman empire disintigrated, which was in 1920 after WW1 and Turkey became it's own country. Up until then it was still called Constantinople.

Knight Spearhead

The official name was always istanbul the europeans just chose to ignore it cause racism.

That statement is just patently false and makes no sense whatsoever. Originally it was called Byzantium back in ancient greece, but was renamed Constantinople after Constantine the 1st died, which was in 330 AD. That was the name of the city all the way up until 1930, even though it was unofficially called Istanbul once the Ottoman turks took over.

Knight Spearhead

Europeans chose to stick to latin names of byzantine cities rather then calling them by there Turkic counter parts. In the 1930s the Turks requested other nations call it by there turkic name, when they have been using the names for centuries before.
