Will the sometimes wretched social media platform see real, positive change -- or is it just because there's an opportunity for money to be made?

Awesome, was waiting for you to talk about this. I like Twitter, but if it goes to hell, deleting my account isn't a big loss. Reddit does the same thing I use Twitter for (announcements/hobbies/content).

The part of dictational country is funny, but as a your follower in China mainland I have to say something doesn't work like the stereotype you have-or perhaps it's more fun. The regulation, i have to say, is not run by administration, usually it's excuted by the socia media corps. It's so funny that the administration even the account of the administration (such the official paper ),perhaps they sent a picture about the National's Day, or retweet some opinion about some social hot events(these papers represents official opinion in some ways)are cancelled by the social media official. A private corp can easily mute and delete the "Official media". The contents that against the administration, praising life in EU, in US is not be"regulated"(sometimes it will be seriously highlights),but the Contents praising the Communism or the country is always be "regulated" here. On the other side, the administration have asked the mainstream social media corps for stopping the propaganda about Crazy Fans (the idol company incite their fans vote for their idol by buying specific good, many fans squeeze their parents' earning to continue the purchasing race), But because the corps are relavant in this business, it won't be stopped. The situation is do serious, but it's not because of Big Brother, Jesus, it's because of money.
