Awesome seeing something on these marvels. We used them for that exact purpose in the day, and agree that they were horridly unreliable things. ZIP was a boon despite the damn things always breaking the plastic in the "landing" carriages when misused. The ZIP disks were surprisingly durable however and we had few failures. I still have some of the Syquest externals and a few disks, whether they work now would be very queationable. I was hoping to get heaps of the disks cheap as everyone moved to ZIP but that didn't pan out alas. I did get heaps of ZIP disks, but CD/DVD totally blew them away.

This was a great look back at SyQuest and Iomega. I used to use the EZ-Drive 135 back when I first got into IT. My boss at the time was all in on SyQuest because it used metal HD platters that did seem more reliable a the time. The problem was, that all of the businesses that we were dealing with were using Zip 100 disks. Eventually i was given the project to swap SCSI SyQuest drives with SCSI Zip drives on Mac and PC workstations.
