I hate Adobe as a company...but there's one product they created almost 30 years ago that I think deserves more recognition than it gets.

But why do they still render so slow that it's like I'm using the same PC from 30 years ago is my question.

PDF (is the P for Postscript or Portable?) is and was definitely groundbreaking. I used it significantly in my "MacUser" days for sending stuff off to the printers. The only thing I dislike is it being used as a "container" for JPEG images specifically unless it's used to place vectors over top (comments, annotations etc) I just wish it wasn't so hard to pull the stuff back out of PDF (unlike DOCX etc which are really just ZIP deflate files renamed) I'm with you on Adobe, dislike them and try to use anything else if at all possible.

Depends on the viewer, I use SumatraPDF and it's blazing fast with zoom, complex vectors and such. Mobile device viewers are another story, most are utter junk.

The P is for "portable," even though PDF is a superset of PostScript.
