Apple produces arguably some of the best-looking computers...but has their form finally had too much of an impact on their function?

You've nailed all the reasons I do my work on macOS, and specifically on hacintosh machines. A custom X99 and a XPS 9550 has been my personal daily drivers. My work provides a MBP but personally it's not worth it for me to purchase my own Apple enthusiast level hardware.

I used to have a 13" MBA, but 4GB RAM was unusable in late 2017, so I decided to sell it off and bought a 12" MB with 500GB SSD and 8GB RAM for $700. The new laptop took a hit in processing power, but at least it didn't crash or just hang. While I like MacBooks, most of Apple's Desktop lineup is just overpriced for people who just want macOS with a Desktop experience. I've been using a Hackintosh with 16GB DDR3, 1TB SSD, along with a couple mechanical HDD's for media storage and backups. For something comparable from Apple, I'd be looking at spending $3k-4k. If you buy a Gigabyte motherboard, and a Fenvi WiFi/BT PCIE card, everything else just works flawlessly. Today's bootloader, Clover, is very versatile and lightyears ahead of what the hackintosh community had to work with a few years ago. There's absolutely no justification in Apple's lack of upgradeability, considering their price. It all comes down to the money. Apple isn't stupid, theyre just exploiting customers into buying overpriced computers at this point.
