Snapshot Saturday... Kinda? - February 10 (Patreon)
Content
Hey there Patrons!
I think this will be the first *actually* short Snapshot Saturday post because, in a weird turn of events, there's only really one piece to show this week! Though knowing me I'll still figure out a way to write a novel for this post!
To briefly summarize last week, I was behind on getting the art packs built and prepared (My goal is to have them finished by the first weekend of each month so they can be sent out on the 10th), so between still working on that during the week, finishing this piece of Onyx, and then just being busy doing non-artwork related things, I didn't really do much in the way of drawing! Which feels really weird to be honest.
Thankfully there was no stress or depression as a factor this last week, I was just busy doing other things.
Going over the art piece real quick, I wanted to experiment with a couple different things, primarily making changes to the lineart to have it not be as harsh, using a non-black color and allow it to blend more into the figure (I've been looking at other artist's art styles and I really like how BonnieBovine is able to have clear linework that also lends itself to a pseudo-painterly coloring style, so I've been trying to emulate something similar), and I also wanted to practice the painterly lighting to allow for a more painterly style overall, as I would eventually like to have an art style that doesn't require linework at all for the final piece. While I do like how the final piece looks, I will say that I didn't really hit the goals I wanted for the style practice. The piece in it's current form still relies pretty heavily on the linework to make certain things read, and there's areas where the shadows are too intense by contrast when the lineart is taken away, while the linework itself doesn't blend into the rest of the work quite as neatly as I'd like. I'll admit that the brush I used really isn't conducive for either of those goals though, and that practice was only really decided on after I had put most of the linework down. So next time I want to practice those things, I'll be using a different brush to help out with reaching those goals.
If you saw the splash images for the art packs that went out earlier today, then you'll recognize the picture! You can see the full and high resolution versions of this piece in their respective art packs, as well as all the elements of the picture separated out (linework, flat colors, lighting, etc.) into their own pictures if you'd like to see more of a peek behind the creative process!
Anywho, that'll do it for this Snapshot post. I'm going to make a few more posts today for Fanart February polls and if I can get the form finished, get a broad feedback post made for changes and things you'd like to see made to my Patreon. For now though, enjoy the picture!
As always, thank you for your support! I hope your weekend is going well and that it's a fun or relaxing one for you!
