Okay, like this audio is a literal god send. I’ve been working triage pretty much since the US response to covid started, and I have been cussed at, coughed on, and called all kinds of names for enforcing hospital policies. I work 3 12s a week, not because that’s what I was hired to do as a volunteer EMT, but because it’s for community good. I am so tired, and am starting a new semester of college, and, god forgive me, I’m running out of patience sand kindness. This is the most appreciated I’ve felt since this all started. Thank you.

As a nurse who works almost 12 hours a day (on a bad day) thank you sincerely. This saved my life today at work. (ps I'm on my lunch break)

I'm listening through a bunch of videos since I finally got a day off, but I think this one has hit me the hardest. I got my cna license two years ago, a few months before the pandemic, and working in a nursing home I was so terrified I'd accidentally spread it to my residents. Eventually it did get brought in to the home November of last year, so bad we lost about a third of our population. We're a small home, typically with only 2 aids on shift, so I was on the covid hall by myself, not supposed to leave unless I had to. At one point I had about 10-12 residents. I've had so many nights now where I can sleep and all I can think about is walking on to our covid unit, the sounds of the machines running, how hot the ppe was. I mostly think about one particular resident, she was such a sweet heart, dementia, very slowly going down hill, until finally she caught covid and was put on my hall for comfort care. We'd have her room darkened with really soft Christmas music playing. I can't listen to those songs anymore. We have a few aids out this month due to isolation, so I've been picking up extra shifts. There have been times I'm the only aid on the floor with 23 residents. I'm just so tired, and this helped make me feel better. Thank you.
