It's funny when you play a remake and suddenly a whole bunch of memories return about the original game, and I can see why I often confuse Gen 3 with Gen 4. I was rather hoping that the Pokémon competitions would be more like the ones in Ruby and Sapphire where you have to use your moves carefully. The whole rhythm game and stickers aspect never quite felt as fleshed out. Maybe if I spent time learning more about it, but it really did feel like something tacked on at the last minute. I guess this is also the problem with making a game too faithful as a remake, and probably why I feel disappointed that this game didn't grab me in the same way that ORAS did for gen 3.

In any case, I decided to train up a Noctowl for dealing with some of the legendaries, where her mean look could prevent them from escaping, and hypnosis would send them to sleep. It's a combination that served me very well in Gen 2 and it worked well here. That's the logic behind adding her, plus it gave me a chance to swap Pokémon out in this tf comic.

I've considered using a Noctowl in Gen 2. It's just unfortunate it's kind of niche until the special/physical move split with Gen 4 since it has better special than physical stats. Also she makes a really cute Noctowl. I never really got into the pokemon competitions in Gen 3 and 4.

Tbf I also bred up a Mismagius in the original Pearl for this purpose. It's funny because this game gave me a lot of my favourite Pokémon but I still really love Gen 2.
