The Little Nightmares piece is done! Man this was an absolute blast to work on! In the topic of color, I personally love the color palette the creators have provided for this game as well as how the character contrasts so starkly with the rest of the gloomy scenery. I noticed there was definitely a heavy or impactful amount of blues and purples so i tried to have a blend between the two when it came to rendering the background. Now since there was already a strong contrast with blue and yellow occuring in tandem with the characters attire and the background, i felt that a subtle touch of yellow was appropriate when it came to touching up the wood with highlights or just its general surface. Oh boy and the tentacles (technically, leeches). i don't think i've done tentacles in such a long time and i wasn't sure on how to approach them with the new methods that i've learned.

luckily, these didn't have veins so it wasn't too much of a hassle in the scope of things x) I tried looking at the models of the leeches that were shown in the game and they, as expected, had such a reflective surface which i needed reference to in order to emulate. that part wasn't too much of a problem to deal with when it came to reflective colors since i've been practicing that with liquids already, however what became a problem was understanding how to convey dimension and shape. usually in the past when i worked with tentacles, i would rely on just the base shape to emphasize how it's wrapping around certain objects. However in this case, i thought that directional shading/rendering would help a lot to emphasize that as well as it's lumpiness. so what i would have to do is just do the usual and lay down the values, shadows and such, then once i got to doing the light/highlights of the leeches, i'd do a back and forth motion from the start of the leech to the end following the contours of it's shape which covered both dimension and "texture" in a sense.

afterwards, i would use an overlay layer to not only aid in the sheen but also to provide peak surface points to compliment the shape. and of course, highlights for that slimy touch c: i'm sincerely happy i went through with this piece, i was definitely nervous on how the hell i would even try to approach this, however it gave me a new method to work on tentacles! Speaking of which, i think i may try to use tentacles as the subject scenario for the Gaz vote. anyway, enough about me yammering, i hope you all like! thanks so much for your patience as always and sorry for not getting back to your guys comments recently D: Finals is coming up, Mothers day as well and of course new pieces i need to work on is making things a tad bit difficult, but i don't want to yap about excuses to you guys. i'll do my best to keep the communication up, have a great day!
