"I have crossed oceans of time to find you". Gary Oldman said part of the reason he wanted to play the role was so that he could say that line. This is of course based upon the 1897 victorian novel "Dracula" by Bram Stoker. The movie takes its liberties, especially with the love story. But I think both the book and the movie are a masterpiece. I especially love how Dracula is presented and how many shifts and forms he can take. Both terrifying and erotic. Which is the essence of vampires. In one moment Gary Oldman looks monstrous, then old, then pure evil. And when he comes to London and sees Mina he looks absolutely wonderful and handsome. You can understand why Mina is drawn to him. There has always been something erotic about vampires. While Dracula is evil and cruel - he's also passionately in love. The movie balances these two sides incredibly well. Gary Oldman is the perfect actor to do that because he's so versatile and can play all these different forms of dracula. I mean...he is such a scary and monstrous character..but then his scenes with Mina are so romantic...and hot! So I really don't know how to feel. Which is of course the intention.

I got the feeling it might had been a tad too slow-paced and theatrical for you :D This is still my fav dracula movie, although as vampire movie in general I prefer interview with a vampire for sure. What I do love especially by this adaptation is the diary inserts, I clearly remember when I read the novel as young how different it was. Big parts of the book was written in letters and diaries from the different perspectives, not an easy thing to adapt in general :D
