the way you said "Jesus" an hour and 26 min in sounds like a good will hunting reference. intentional?

As others have said these movies really suffer from trying to adapt the longer books into a 2 hour film. There's just so much that is just thrown at you with no real explanation, or anything to really make you care one way or the other. It just kinda washes over you without the context you need. It also leads to really clunky introductions of plot devices that just seem convenient and with no pre planning. Them finding a room that just so happens to be exactly what they need for example. In the books it's seeded a lot throughout, it's a known quantity. Whereas in the films its just suddenly a thing. I feel this film more than any suffers from it, the book is nearly 800 pages long, so the plot moves at a mile a minute trying desperately to hurtle through the frankly enormous story it was tasked with adapting. It means nothing has any real room to breathe and the minor characters have no real room to develop. Tonks is introduced in this film and they have no time to actually give her a personality, so latch on to one thing from the book that is easy that she doesn't like being called Nymphadora, so she just randomly says it and that's all you really know about her. They're mostly just spouting exposition in a valiant attempt to make the non book readers understand what in the living fuck is actually going on. I enjoy these films as a companion piece to the books, that's how I view them, on their own they're kind of a mess, a charming mess but a mess all the same.

As I just turned 51, your "I'm not 50" comment gave me a pang of loss. I quit watching the Potter movies at the previous one, so I'm watching these fresh with you.
