Michael wants everyone to be happy, but only on his terms and with him as the center of attention. That's what makes him so horrible. I don't know why people try to make him seem innocent.

People are incapable of being objective about a character they like and talk about them in terms of what you've experienced so far only. Michaels not a bad guy but he's absolutely petty, rude and insensitive, you're assessment of him is accurate. He needs to be the centre of attention and desperately wants to be on camera at all times. Glad you're finally on the Jim and Pam train too!!

for michael i have a soft spot for him but that's because i know i know his character arch. he's annoying now and he can definitely take things too far. he's like an annoying kid, he doesn't know where the line is or when to stop. he truly is like an annoying little kid who never got attention and now that's carried over into how he treats his employees. he has no friends and sees them as people who have to be his friend. it's unhealthy and toxic and ultimately just sad too, for him and the people affected by his behavior too.

also i love your reactions to jim and pam!! you pick up on the nuance so well. there was a reaction i watched where, when pam broke down and cried, they burst out laughing because they genuinely think every little thing is meant to be funny. you get it what the show is and i love that. it makes your reactions so enjoyable!!

this!! i have a soft spot for him and i'll defend him when people say certain things about his character but everything you said here is 100% accurate. i can empathize with his social awkwardness and his desperation to have friendships and a family while still seeing that his behavior is immature and toxic. i think michael scott is a layered character. we see how todd packer is just bad all around and that while michael is awful too, there's a touch of something redeaming there. but it's important to see that also be able to say "this man is a nightmare and he needs some major growth" and i think too often office fans struggle to find that balance, of both loving michael and being able to be critical of him.

yesss them!!! i couldn't stand it. she isn't the butt of some joke. but the way they laugh at her in multiple scenes of her clearly suffering and going through emotional turmoil, it put a bad taste in my mouth. i couldn't watch any more after a point

I'm gonna say this one more time...because apparently no one understands what I'm saying. If you read my comments - I have never said that Michael is NOT "the worst". In fact I mentioned several times that he IS. I am just explaining WHY. And the WHY is very important to me. Because it puts things in perspective. So him being "the worst" is not the end of it for me. And no it has nothing to do with me being unable to be objective. I love Michael BECAUSE he's a flawed character, not because how good of a person he is. That should be abundantly clear by now, considering what kind of tv characters I love. Jimmy and I have a very similar list. And also...I am not judging the character based on the entire show! I haven't seen the entire show. I'm working my way through season 3 at the moment. So no I'm not basing my opinion of Michael on the show. Just the episodes I have seen. And it didn't change much from season 2 to 3.
