Oh shit, time for Henry Rollins to get the band together. Love all the seasons, but love this season a bit more.

Mako makes it hard to like him before now, but the tight-ass cop role, while not super interesting, is at least a useful plot moving device, and suits him at this point. I really do love the consequences that they created from the end of season 2. They didn't know they'd get more and rather than be written into a corner I think they turned Korra's decision into something really compelling, and while I love Republic City, going out into this newly magical world on this field trip is such a smart move...it really brings a lot of the best worldbuilding of A:tLA and the first 2 seasons of Korra into a mixture that feels like a really earned new paradigm shift that builds on all that came before. It just starts to really sit together nicely, the more they weave the ultimately 7 seasons of series together. So some fun casting things: As I suggested, Henry Rollins voices Zaheer. And the armless waterbender in his gang, Ming Wa, is voiced by Grey DeLisle, aka the voice of Princess Azula in A:tLA. Old Lord Zuko is designed to look similar to his great grandfather on his mother's side. Avatar Roku, which is rad.

This season goes so hard, might be my favorite in either series, it's hard to say. I think the fact that this season is great, but it also comes off the back of the weakest season in the franchise makes it stand out even more.

So the way I once heard it explained that I quite like is that Zaheer was already a really good fighter, plus he clearly knows some sort of parkour and is really agile. We also know that he studied airbenders before and probably knew about airbending techniques already. Once he got airbending he simply augmented the way he already fights with the airbending.
